Hot Fall Hair Trends
Even if you're not into fashion and makeup, you still style your hair. The
fall is a very common time for people to want to change their look.
Whether it's drastic or subtle, one thing's for sure, we want a change for the
better.
There are a lot of beautiful hair trends this fall! The biggest trend is
the comeback of short hair! Short hair is just as trendy as long tresses I
am seeing it on the runway, on celebrities, and everywhere in between.
There are different short cuts to try. there is the conservative bob, the
flipped bob, the layered bob, cropped bob, or pixie cut. They are all
variations of the classic bob.
The conservative Bob is the most popular and the easiest to achieve. It
is cut all one length and looks great with or without bang. It is also
easy to style and requires little styling product. To achieve this look I
would shampoo and condition the hair with a smoothing system to enhance
sleekness. Then blow dry the hair with a silicone based styling product and a
paddle brush. To really achieve that sleek, sophisticated look use the
InStyler to smooth down the cuticle and promote shine. Power on the InStyler and
set it to the desired heat level. Gather a 2 inch section of hair.
Position the cylinder side down slowly glide the InStyler straight down through
the hair from roots toward ends, without angling the cylinder. Continue
until desired results are achieved and you will have the perfect bob.
The flipped bob is another great look. Shampoo and condition the hair
with a volumixing system because this look has a lot of volume and movement.
Blow dry the hair with you head upside down to achieve maximum volume.
Next crucial step is to use the InStyler to get the flip! Ensure the InStyler
is powered on and set to the desired heat level. Gather a 2" - 3" section
of hair. Position the cylinder side up slowly glide the InStyler down your
hair from the roots toward the ends. Near the ends of your hair, turn the
cylinder up, keeping the ends on the cylinder. Rotate for 3-5 seconds. For
larger flips, start the turn sooner. Continue until desired results.
Another way to wear a cute trendy bob this fall is to curl it!
Encourage the natural curl in your hair during humid months with a curling shampoo
and conditioner, towel dry, and follow with a generous amount of curl
enhancing product. Blow dry your hair with a diffuser Or let it dry on its own,
all the while scrunching it to encourage the curls. Don't mess with it too
much. Or you can let your hair air dry naturally and power on you InStyler
to the appropriate temperature for you hair type. Wrap sections around the
InStyler and close allowing the rotation to change the formation of your
hair to an amazing curl. Open the InStyler and drop the curl. One
professional tip for this look is to make sure you curl the hair away from your
face. It really looks sassy and stylish!
Dean's "Healthy Hair Tips"
Believe it or not, summertime is coming up fast! But you don't have to wait until summer to give your hair that fresh summer look! Here are some great "summertime / anytime" hair hints!
- Often times hair stylist forget to mention to their clients, that is DIET including folic acid and calcium are great ways to help with strengthening the hair and with hair production. Simply eat more fruit, beans, and green leafy vegetables.
- One of my favorite tips is - don't wash your hair everyday! The natural oils from your scalp help to naturally condition the hair. If you feel like you are a little limp or feeling a little oily just put some baby powder or corn starch on your hands and apply to the roots this will absorb the oil and give the hair some body and texture.
- If your hair is feeling like there is a "build up" on it, a quick way to get rid of it is, after you have shampooed your hair do a little rinse with a cup of "ACV" (apple cider vinegar). Your hair will feel clean and fresh; however, you may want to put a little conditioner thru to minimize the smell of ACV.
- An obvious beauty tip - especially for the summer and it is never emphasized enough - is you have to put SPF on your partline, and if you pull your hair back in a ponytail to run outside make sure you have SPF on your ears and if you want to save your hair put on a baseball cap. I have seen many clients that have a bit of a tie dye look on their hair because the sun will fade your color and you will often have a band of dark where the ponytail tie is.
- Styling in the summer can be difficult for many because of high temperatures and humidity. Quick styling is key. The InStyler® can help you smooth out or put waves into the hair, and both are great texture for a half up half down do. Pull the sides back into a simple pony and cover with a great accessory, this keeps the hair off of your face and it looks like you spent a long time getting those waves perfect.
- When you are going to the store pick up an extra avocado, smash it up on a bowl with a teaspoon of olive oil and apply to freshly shampooed hair, wrap with some plastic wrap and wait for 30 min then rinse completely followed by a light conditioning. This will help if you fight off dry hair.
Quick, Simple Styles with Five Pins or Less!
Simple easy styles can be achieved in five bobby pins or less. Right now, I'm a big fan of the side messy bun. It has been seen on the red carpet, but can also be worn on any woman heading to work! Simply gather your hair in a low pony on the side of your neck. Secure it with a rubber band but don't pull the pony tail all the way through. Now take your bobby pins and pin several pieces to make sure the style is set and to conceal the rubber band.
Dean's Step By Step How To's with the InStyler!
The Golden Globes this year was full of amazing hairstyles – which you can do with the InStyler!
Hayden Panettiere
To recreate Hayden Panettiere's gorgeous locks from the night of the Golden Globes, follow this step by step guide:
First, start with clean, dry hair. Next, take your InStyler and set it on the appropriate heat setting for your hair type. Start by taking one-inch sections of hair at the nape of your neck and work your way up. This will keep you a little more organized. Lightly spritz the section of hair you are working on with Tre Milano Firm Up hair spray (I'm also a big fan of Aquage Working Spray or Tresemme Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray)! Now that the hair is correctly prepped, take the section and wrap it around the InStyler and close the barrel. Allow the rotating barrel to heat up that hair shaft and create the curl. Open and release the curl. Now, instead of letting the curl drop down, keep it coiled up and secure it with a duck clip. This allows the curl to cool and set which is really necessary for this look. After the whole head is done, take the pins out and let the cooled curls down. Now, you are going to take a Denman paddle brush and brush out theses curls. The final step is sweeping all the hair over to your left side and spraying the hair with Tre Milano Shine Spray.
Amy Adams
Creating the gorgeous hairstyle worn by Amy Adams at the Golden Globes is much easier than you think! Follow this step by step guide and you'll be red carpet ready in no time!
First, start with clean, dry hair. Next, take your InStyler and set it on the appropriate heat setting for your hair type. Next, take one inch sections of hair and wrap it around the barrel of the InStyler. Close the handle and allow the InStyler's rotating barrel to instantly change the curl pattern of your hair. After several seconds, open and allow the curl to drop. The hair should have a loose, wave pattern. Repeat until the entire head has been "waved." Now, take the section of hair on your crown and secure off and out of the way. This allows you to take the hair on the sides of your head and pull it super tight, joining it in the back of the head with a small, clear, elastic hair tie. These can be purchased at goodies.com. or any local beauty supply store. To make sure the sides of the hair are going to stay securely spray it with a hair spray like Tre Milano Firm Spray. Now, release the hair in the crown area and allow it to fall. Absolutely breathtaking!
America Ferrera
America Ferrera is always gorgeous, but she looked especially great the night of the Golden Globes. Many people want to rock the same hairstyle she wore that night and it is so much easier than you think! Just follow this step by step guide.
First, start with clean, dry hair. Next, take your InStyler and set it on the appropriate heat setting for your hair type. Start by taking one-inch sections of hair at the nape of your neck and work your way up. This will keep you a little more organized. Lightly spritz the section of hair you are working on with Tre Milano Firm Up Spray (I'm also a big fan of Aquage Working Spray or Tresemme Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray)! Now that the hair is correctly prepped, take the section and wrap it around the InStyler and close the barrel. Allow the rotating barrel to heat up that hair shaft and create the curl. After several seconds, open and allow the curl to drop. Now it is time to section out the hair into three ponytails in the back of your head, lining them up vertically. So now you have three curly ponytails. It is now time to use your creativity, and start twisting and pining different curls in different directions. This should be fun and stress free. When you are satisfied with the curl formation you have created finish it off with a Tre Milano firm hold hair spray and a shine spray like Aquage Beyond Shine Spray or Tres Milano Shine Spray.
Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet. Aside from being amazingly talented, this woman always looks great! The night of the Golden Globes was no different. She had a great hair style that is simple and flattering on all women. Here is how to replicate that timeless style...
First, start with clean, dry hair, and part it on either the left or right, whatever your preference is. Next, turn on your InStyler and place it at the appropriate temperature for your hair type. Use the InStyler by placing it at the root, with the cylinder placed on the underside of the bangs and close. Glide the InStyler slightly up and back, over directing toward the center of your head. Maintain tension as you move toward the tips. This will defiantly create the perfect bang. Secure with hair spray such as Tresemme Two Tres Extra Hold Hairspray or Tre Milano Firm Up Spray. With the rest of your hair, pull it into a low, slightly off centered bun. Simple, elegant and stunning.
Hi everyone! Hope you're having a fabulous '09!
Now is the time of year women are getting antsy for some warmer weather, and with that comes a new look. If you are considering a fresh new haircut and want to go shorter, here are a couple of Q&As that will help you make that final call:
- What advice would you give women who've always been scared to try a short haircut?
Well I would ask the question: "Why haven't you cut it in the past" They could have had a traumatic experience with a short hair cut in the past. Maybe their partner likes long hair - I have heard that so much in the past. Also why do they want to cut it? Do they want to save time? Is styling their longer hair too challenging to maintain? Or is styling becoming too damaging on your hair? The hair care industry is improving everyday, and they are coming out with some revolutionary tools you may not know about. A great example, is the InStyler. It is a rotating hot iron used to curl, straighten, or style faster than ever before. The Instyler uses less heat than traditional hot tools and delivers better results. Before cutting off all your locks, check it out at www.getinstyler.com. However, you may be looking for a fun new look or following a trend. I would explore deep before you make your up your mind. Once you commit to it, move forward with no regret. Remember attitude is everything...if you act like you hate it so will everyone else.
- Which short cuts are the least and most flattering, generally speaking? (Or "safest" vs "riskiest")
One of the most risky haircuts is the "pixie." In order to do this with good results the face should be smaller and oval, much like Victoria Beckham. It is also wise to style it everyday. Most think when it is short, you can just wash and go...usually not the case. A little bit of volume in the crown, which you can achieve with the InStyler, can make a big difference. I think a safe haircut is a mid-neck length layered haircut that can be tucked behind the ears or curled as well as finished with a lot of texture and body.
- Is there a way to pre-determine whether a short cut will look good? (i.e. pinning hair up in some certain way in front of mirror, or trying on a wig, even? or those online virtual-cut programs?)
The first thing on the "Dean's list" that I check is face shape to see if a particular haircut would be good. There are 7 different shapes: Oval, Square, Heart, Pear, Diamond, Oblong and Round. Oval is the most desired because you can do anything you want because the face is perfectly balanced. I wouldn't recommend a short cut if you have a "Pear" shape because it will not balance out the head enough. #2 on the "Dean's List" is your occupation - does the hair fit the job? And, #3 on the "Dean's List" is the willingness to continue the upkeep and dedication to styling.
- What if you do get a bad short cut--will extensions be a good solution?
If the hair is shorter than 4 or 5 inches, extensions are not going to look natural and they will require a lot of maintenance. If you hate your short cut that much, invest in a great wig www.shevypro.com. Just make sure you commit to it and wear it like your own hair. FYI, your hair grows on average of half an inch a month so do the math and figure out when it will be long enough to go back to normal.

Tips and Tricks...
Leona Lewis
I would love to see her walk down the red carpet with her hair pulled low and off to the side. She has a gorgeous face, I think the hair should be out of the way, but kept soft and romantic. To create this hairstyle, I would prep the hair with the InStyler to give it lots of volume and body. Take a section of hair wherever you need extra body, volume and height. Place the InStyler at the root with the cylinder toward your scalp, and then push slightly toward the center of the head. Maintain the tension as you slowly move to the ends. For maximum height, focus the over direction at the root, then gather all of your hair to the side of your head and secure it with a rubber band. The key to this hair style is to not pull the pony tail through the rubber band all the way, creating a loop of hair. Now use your bobby pins to secure the loose hair. When done, you should have a loose, creative looking bun. Secure this style with Tre Milano Firm Up Spray, and Tre Milano Shine Essence Spray.
Rhianna
She is known for being hot and edgy. Her haircut is no exception, it has created a hot trend all over the nation. The InStyler is a great tool to use to create the sexy sweeping fringe that I will expect to see Rhianna on the red carpet. For bangs, use the InStyler Rotating Iron at the root, with the cylinder placed on the underside of the bangs. Glide the InStyler slightly up and back, over directing toward the center of your head. Maintain tension as you move toward the tips. Hold until you've reached the desired results.
Katy Perry
She is new on the music scene and getting a reputation for her fearless style. She is always pushing the envelope and trying new trends. She often works the 4o's inspired hair do, but I would like to see her do something a little different. I would like to see her walk down the red carpet for the Grammys wearing her hair half up and half down with lots of wave and texture. This is one of the biggest trends this season. To create these waves I would use the InStyler. Turn the InStyler on at the appropriate temperature for your hair type. Gather a 2" - 3" section of hair. Carefully wrap your hair around the cylinder and close for 5-10 seconds. Open and release hair. To loosen and separate, run your fingers through the section and spray with Tre Milano Firm-Up Spray to prevent frizz. Next, pull the hair on the sides of the head back and secure with a clear rubber band. The hair in the crown area can be teased to create perfect volume to really finish off the style.
Alicia Keys
I would like to see her hair pulled back, away from her face, in a sleek and sophisticated up style. It is definitely a trend being scene this season, and she has the perfect bone structure to pull it off. The InStyler is a great tool to use. To prep your hair for this style, use the InStyler to straighten and polish your tresses. Set the InStyler at the appropriate setting for your hair type.
To really hold this look spray with Tres Milano Firm-Up Spray first then gather a 2" - 3" section of hair. Position the cylinder side toward your scalp. Slowly glide the InStyler straight down through the hair from roots toward tips. Continue until the entire head is polished and straight. Then pull hair back and secure it in to a low pony tail. Create a bun with the rest of the hair and secure with bobby pins. Use Tres Milano Shine Essence Spray to leave it brilliant shine.
Carrie Underwood
She is definitely known for her gorgeous, blonde, curly tresses. This year on the red carpet at the Grammys, I would like to see Carrie's hair parted to the side and worn in 40's inspired waves. Create the perfect curls using the InStyler. Power the InStyler at the appropriate heat setting for your hair type.
Gather a 2" - 3" section of hair. Carefully wrap your hair around the cylinder and close. Gently open and release hair. Hold longer for tighter curls. After dropping the curl, wrap it back up in a curl formation and secure it with a duck clip to allow it to cool in the curl. Repeat until the entire head is curled. Once it is done, release pins and let curls drop. Next, brush the hair with a soft bristled paddle Denman brush. This creates the soft, romantic look. Lastly, spray the hair with Tre Milano Shine Essence Spray to really shine like a star and control frizz.
Adele
She is new and a highly anticipated artist walking down the red carpet for the Grammy's this year. I would love to see her hair tousled, in a loose up style. Before pulling the hair up, curl the entire head in loose waves with the InStyler. Do this by gathering a 2" - 3" section of hair. Carefully wrap your hair around the cylinder and close. Gently open and release hair. Once the hair is entirely curled, create three little ponytails. The ponytails should create a vertical line. With all the excess hair that is hanging down, twist and pin forming a romantic look. Finish off with Tre Milano Firm Up Hair Spray.
I've had so many bad experiences at salons, how do I go about finding a good stylist?
Talk to people. This is the best way to find someone who's really great! So, next time you are at the store and you see a hairstyle you love, don't be shy and ask!
I'm not familiar with what hair type I have and how to deal with it.
There are different ways to identify hair type. For example there is straight, wavy, curly, or frizzy. There is fine, medium, and coarse hair. There is dry, oily or normal hair. In general normal or medium hair doesn't have too many challenges. For coarse hair you may have to deal with dryness or heaviness. Fine hair may need more moisture or volume to make you happy. No matter what don't worry! There is always a solution to any kind of problem!
I'm not familiar with hair products or how to use hot tools that could improve my hair challenges.
In order to become familiar with a certain product you must first identify what would be best for your hair type. For example, there are products that promote body for thin or fine hair. Products that have a smoothing effect for curly or frizzy hair. Moisture products for dry hair, etc, etc. Then determine how you like to wear your hair on a daily basis. This will help with the choice of styling products and hot tools. Do you need hairspray or shine serums? Do you need hot tool a diffuser? Once these questions are answered you should be a step closer to being a hair guru. If you still have questions on how to style hair call around to different salons and see if a stylist will offer lessons.
How do I choose a haircut and color that is right for me?
A good hair cut should compliment your face shape. There are 7 face shapes that we acknowledge and a haircut should help accentuate the good parts and conceal other parts. Becoming aware of what looks good on you is great so you are prepared when a stylist asks what you are looking for. Hair color should compliment your skin tone. You don't want it to wash you out or be too overwhelming. All colors have warm and cool tones, including your skin color. Identify what that is and go with the same palette.
I've run out of ideas and don't want to be boring, what can I do that is quick and creative?
Accessories are my best tip for this problem! A cool scarf, cute headband, or elegant clip will really transform your look!
How do I make sure that when I am getting a hairstyle for a formal event it comes out exactly as I hope?
My best advice is to find a picture of what you want your hair to look like for your specific event. Then bring it in to your stylist the day of the appointment and have her go over expectations. For example your hair maybe way to thin to create that exact look you want but you can get it close. If you are really paranoid schedule an appointment for a trial run a couple weeks before your big event.
